Types of TV

Do I need an ‘HD ready’ TV for digital?
No you don’t, but to find out more about HD ready digital televisions, see iDTVs. Pretty well all new iDTVs are HD Ready anyway and this can be a worthwhile investment because of the promise of more free HD services broadcast via satellite and the growing market in HD (Blueray) video discs, so going HD should be more affordable.

Will my HD ready TV get HD when it’s broadcast?
Not necessarily. You will need a suitable satellite or cable HD set top box or digital TV recorder. You can also use an HD ready TV to watch high definition films on Blueray discs.

HD services are currently available only on a few TV channels on Freesat from BBC and ITV, and Sky satellite and the Virgin cable service for an extra subscription. For more information click iDTVs.

What are CRT, plasma or LCD?
For an explanation of these different types of TVs, see iDTVs.
