Easy to Install

Ricability has been working with Digital UK on a special programme to test self installed digital TV products to identify those which are

• easy to install and
• easy to re-tune.

We have assessed a range of products you are likely to find in the shops - 6 digital TV recorders (PVRs), 12 set top boxes and 17 iDTVs. The products below have been awarded an ‘Easy to install’ badge. Follow the links to see our Summary and Detailed test reports

If you don’t want to install products yourself, remember that satellite, cable and phone based services like Sky, Virgin and BT Vision are all supplied and installed for you. You can use our Product Search to select these types of products, or find out more about the different platform options at Going Digital. Some electrical retailers will also install equipment for you at a cost.

The Easy to install test programme

The Easy to install test programme and campaign has been designed by Digital UK to specifically evaluate important elements in self installing, such as

Packaging – e.g. labelling and instructions
Accessories supplied – e.g. leads and batteries
User interface - e.g. on screen menus and remote controls
First time installation & retuning – is it automatic / simple?
Customer support – helplines and websites
